The Cruise Terminal of the Port of Leixões is one of the major projects promoted by the APDL - Administration of the Ports of Douro, Leixões, and Viana do Castelo, resulting from a dynamic of territorial cooperation, linking two main objectives: on the one hand, to improve the commercial effectiveness of the port associated with cruise activity, and on the other hand, urban integration associated with increased sociability with the surrounding population.
The Cruise Terminal turns the Port of Leixões into an important gateway to the region and definitively boosts the increase in the number of cruise ships and passengers passing through Leixões.
The 340-meter-long quay, inaugurated in April 2011, allows for the reception of larger cruise ships, meeting the current development of the world's major shipowners.
The Porto Cruise Terminal is located on the South Pier of the Port of Leixões, just 3 km from the city of Porto and features:

In addition, this new building is also the headquarters of CIIMAR - Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine Research of the University of Porto, one of the most relevant national research units in the field of Marine Sciences, integrated into one of the only 25 Associated Laboratories to the State in the country. In addition to CIIMAR, other research units of the University of Porto with projects related to the Sea, develop their work here, including projects for the development of underwater technologies (such as autonomous underwater vehicles) in dedicated spaces for conducting tests and experiments in a maritime environment..
